So much stuff.... so little room.

And that's what makes these micro figures so great!
Introduction

Great things come in small packages. That can truly be said about these cute little Micro Super Powers Figures from Gentle Giant. I had heard about these a while back via Entertainment Earth and have been itching to get them in hand but alas they won't be available until sometime in October, but you can pre order now if you're so tempted and inclined. I know I am especially after getting these and having already been bit my the micro bugs thansk to the Marvel Secret Wars mini bobble heads that I found at Walgreen's a good while back. I'm still a sucker for the black suit Spider Man. Anyway, back to the DC Universe....

In this first wave we find the true power hitters of the DC Universe; Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in their original bright suited glory, long before the monochrome dull and drab looks of today. And I love 'em for it. I also want to point out I picked this set up via this mighty fine seller on eBay who happens to have a few more of these available at a great price ($16 plus $3.65 shipping, tell 'em Jim sent you if you would, if for no other reason than to let 'em know I think they're a great seller :) )

Each figure is a great representation of the original Super Powers line from 1984. But the biggest curiosity that I had was the possibility of articulation. It looks like they have it, but alas they do not. And that's perfectly okay. It really is the thought that counts as far as I'm concerned in this nostalgic throwback. I will admit though it would be epic id they did have the articulation and “Super Power” action features of old. But then again if they did do that I'd probably be playing with them and not have time to do this review. You know, grown up stuff. Yeah that's it. This is work. Grown up work. Right? Right! Yeah okay fine..... I played anyway.. let's examine the specimens...

First up, the limited edition packaging is great! All of the packaging is really. It captures the essence of the original line so well. Again, bright and colorful and the Gentle Giant name being don up in the old Kenner font makes it even better. You've already seen the front up top but the back is also very well designed. Plus it teases us with all of the great figures to come including a Walgreen's exclusive Lex Luthor in the Power Armor. Yeah, lots of trips to Walgreen's in my future for sure.

SUPERMAN

We'll start with the Man of Steel. Supes looks great with the only exception being the way the cape is applied. Instead of being attached around the neck it's a bit more clunky and attached at the shoulders. But all of that is forgiven when you spin him around and see the big yellow “S” emblem on the back of the cape just like the original figure had. That's a huge win in attention to detail for me.

BATMAN

Another faithful recreation of the original Super Powers figure. And again the cape being fringed and bat-wing like is a wonderful touch they didn't leave out. Again, another big win!

WONDER WOMAN

Well, now we've got a problem. Considering scale I can see where some details can get lost but in the case of this Amazonian goddess, ALL of the detail escaped her face. Poor think looks like a Sesame Street Muppet. Such a shame too considering the rest of the paint app on the body look great. And from a distance it's not so bad for display. Had they added her Golden Lasso I might have been a bit more forgiving.
CONCLUSION

Overall I say these figures are great. Sure there's no articulation and they are permanently mounted to the base but these are intended to be dust collectors for your desk and not so much for saving the planet against the evil forces of Darkseid. And for the less than $20 I paid for this Limited Edition set I can't see the need to complain. Actually I encourage everyone to give these a shot. They're bright, cheery and fun PLUS there's more coming to retail soon for what I will guess be $2.99 a pop like their Marvel counter parts. Oh, I should note these are smaller than the Marvel Secret Wars mini bobble heads. But that's okay, cross overs are a gimmick best left in the 20th century.

So there ya have it, little figures with a BIG pop factor that you should totally add to your Super Powers / DC Collection.
